Motion Amplification® and its rapid evolution for the reliability and maintenance professional

Motion Amplification is a rapidly evolving technology that is being utilized more and more within maintenance and reliability programs. With new technology comes rapid evolution, new capabilities, and new use cases. In this presentation, we will cover new advances in the technology and how it is being leveraged for full field vibration. Advances include the ability to visualize frequency and phase across the entire video in a single image, visualize and measure thermal growth, and new advanced techniques to measure shaft dynamics while undergoing rotation. Motion Amplification will also be discussed in the context of continuous monitoring and how a camera can be used for measuring vibration across multiple locations in an image with full trending and historization capabilities. Case studies will be presented on Motion Amplification highlighting new advancements and how it has been utilized to solve real problems along with strategies used to deploy Motion Amplification as a new tool in the reliability toolbox.

Motion Amplification is a proprietary video processing technique that detects subtle displacement and then converts that movement to a level visible with the naked eye, enabling visualization of the movement. Each pixel becomes the equivalent of a displacement sensor allowing for full field vibration. Seeing how the machine is moving allows the source of most issues to become clear, allowing for effective root cause analysis as well as communication of the issue.

Jeff Hay, CEO, RDI Technologies

TJoin Jeff Hay, CEO of RDI Technologies, as he also shares why he thrives on creating innovative products that disrupt industries and help customers see things in a whole new way. He believes that cameras are the sensor of the future. Jeff’s background is in Applied Optical Physics. Before founding RDI, Jeff held a Research Scientist position at the University of Louisville. Since starting RDI, he has created and patented multiple methods for using camera technology to measure and visualize motion that is integral to RDI’s products.
